The Albedo Gradient allows you to combine a gradient with an RGB texture to define color data. This is especially useful for adding natural color variation along the length of groom splines. This shader module is primarily used in conjunction with the Hair shading model for rendering hair, fur, or fiber, where gradients help simulate natural root-to-tip color variation. For correct results, enable the Hair shading model when using the Albedo Gradient module.
You can source or create the RGB texture in several ways:
- Toolbag Library: Use existing textures.
- Texture Projects in Toolbag: Paint or generate custom maps.
- Third-Party Applications: Author textures externally.

Setting | Description |
---|---|
Albedo Texture Slot | Add an albedo texture by clicking on the slot or dragging and dropping one from the Library. |
Texture Color Overlay | Change the albedo or diffuse color. If the Albedo Map slot has a texture applied, the color will be overlaid on top. |
Gradient | The gradient that is used to control the albedo or diffuse color. The left color is responsible for the beginning of the splines, and the right color is responsible for their ending. You can also add extra colors by clicking on the gradient or move existing ones by dragging. |
Handle Color | Edit the color value for the selected handle of the gradient. |
Normalize Handles | Evenly spaces all gradient points. |
Reset Default Handles | Resets the original gradient settings. |
